“I’m absolutely stoked to be making my ARC debut as part of the Subaru WRX Challenge at Forest Rally,” Price said.

Price needs little introduction, with a motorsport resume that includes two Dakar wins on two wheels, as well as a number of Australian Off Road Championships, also on two wheels. The 37-year-old is certainly no stranger to racing on four wheels of course, having also secured many impressive victories at off road events around the world predominantly in his famous Red Bull Trophy Truck. His long list of achievements also includes an impressive nine wins at the iconic Finke Desert Race across both two and four wheels.

While he won’t be chasing outright victory in the ARC, the Subaru WRX Challenge class win will certainly be the target.Price also thanked the numerous organisations who made his ARC debut possible, including the strong support of event organisers WA Car Club as well as On The Brink Motorsport, ARB, Smoothline Notes, PowerPlay, Information Proficiency, Maximum Motorsport and Subaru Australia. In WA this month Price will again be joined by co-driver Holly Kilbride, the pair having recently competed and tasted success together at Rally Heartland. Their victory at that event sees them also leading the South Australian Rally Championship.

“I can’t wait to get to shakedown and really get to know the Subaru WRX and take on those iconic WA roads with Holly in the co-driver seat.”

“The ARC is so strong right now with some great competition throughout the field. Same goes for the Subaru WRX Challenge, and being a one-make series, there will be some really great battles in our category and I can’t wait to get to WA and tackle this opportunity head on. “I’ve heard and seen so many amazing things about the Forest Rally, both when it comes to the stages and the unique surface we’ll be rallying on and also how well organised this event is by the WA Car Club.

Price added that 2024 Subaru WRX Challenge winner Glenn Brinkman had also been instrumental in making his and Kilbride’s entry possible.

“Glenn has been a huge supporter in my rally journey to date and being able to join him in the Subaru WRX Challenge is an awesome opportunity, we’ll certainly be fighting hard to make sure he doesn’t have it easy out on stage,” Price added.

Dowel to return to ARC in WA with new-look setup

Article Image

Troy Dowel will make his first appearance for the 2025 EROAD Australian Rally Championship (ARC) season next month after confirming his entry for the Forest Rally. The Victorian was forced to miss the ARC season opener in March due to ongoing health issues, but has since made a close to full recovery over the past six weeks, making him available for the Western Australia-based rally.A lot has changed since Dowel’s last ARC event, with the youngster to contest the Forest Rally in a new car and with a new team, while also welcoming a new co-driver to call the notes.Set to be behind the wheel of Harry Bates’ 2023 championship-winning Toyota GR Yaris AP4 and running under the Neal Bates Motorsport banner, Dowel will tackle the 2025 season with last year’s Junior Cup driver champion Mitch Garrad as his co-driver.Although Dowel’s only event for the 2024 season was last year’s Buckby Motors Rally Tasmania where he was initially entered in the Yaris, an incident in testing prevented him from actually starting the rally in the new car – Dowel reverting back to a Ford Fiesta Rally2 and eventually placing 10th overall.A highly consistent performer on the national stage, Dowel has long been a top-ranked driver when stringing together full campaigns – a number of event and heat podiums contributing to his overall fourth place for the 2022 season and sixth in 2023.

Article Image

As for Garrad, while many ARC fans would recognise him for his Junior Cup title in the driver’s seat last year, the Victorian has a wealth of experience as a co-driver, having regularly been alongside Brad Till in the Victorian Rally Championship since 2015.Last year, a one-off round in the Akademos Rally alongside Dowel’s decorated father Justin proved impressive enough for Garrad to get the tick of approval to replace Bernie Webb for this year’s season. While Webb had been instrumental in Dowel’s development since joining the ARC, the decision to switch co-drivers was motivated by the idea of building Dowel’s ability to work with different individuals as he continues his journey to one day compete in Europe. With Dowel yet to have any seat time with Garrad, as well as not having had any real experience in the Yaris, this season will be a learning year for the young gun as he looks to slowly rebuild his confidence and consistency.

“We missed the first round of the championship because I just wasn’t physically ready for it after a tough weekend in Tasmania last year,” Dowel said.“I am feeling much better now as I have more of an appetite, I am spending three or four sessions a week in the gym, I am on the simulator every day and I have regained the fitness required to rally.“I am through the worst of the illness, but recovering from the bone marrow transplant is a long process and even though I am not 100 per cent just yet, I believe I am strong enough to do a rally and will feel even better by the time the Forest Rally arrives.“With that said, I know I have to ease into it and there is no expectation for results. This will be the first time I have worked with another co-driver outside of Bernie, so the aim will be to get used to Mitch, finish every event and enjoy myself.“I am also really looking forward to working with Neal Bates Motorsport – they are one of the most professionally run teams in the country and they know how to get the best out of that Yaris, so to have them in my corner is a bonus.“Getting to experience that adrenaline of rallying in the forests again is good for me, as it’s a great escape from everything that’s going on and allows me to focus on being competitive. I am really excited to be back.”

The Forest Rally serves as the second round of the EROAD Australian Rally Championship and takes place in Busselton, Bunbury and Nannup on 22-25 May

Wiedman on high after coming-of-age Production Cup win in Rally of Canberra

From being one of the youngest drivers to debut in the Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship at just 15 years old to securing a maiden class victory in the EROAD Australian Rally Championship just last month, Josh Wiedman is undoubtedly on the rise.Alongside new co-driver KJ Miller and behind the wheel of a newly acquired Mitsubishi EVO9, Wiedman took out top honours in the WOLF Production Cup at last month’s Toyota Gazoo Racing Rally of Canberra after winning both Heats, as well as falling just short of the outright podium to finish fourth. He had come close to class victories on multiple occasions – but Canberra was the first time he had stood on the top step of the Production Cup – a milestone marked with a shoey, which is quickly becoming his signature celebration.Since debuting back in 2022, Wiedman has endured a number of issues with mechanical dramas, driver errors and general inexperience preventing him from reaching his true potential.

Article Image

But in 2025, the Queenslander is showing a new sense of maturity he has never displayed before and one that could prove to be the difference in becoming a class champion, and eventually a regular in the outright ARC.This new way of thinking was on show during the season opener when the youngster charged out to an early lead of more than a minute after the first loop of Saturday’s stages before managing the car through the afternoon stages instead of trying to push even harder – a strategy that was rewarded with a Heat victory by more than three minutes despite suffering a flat earlier in the day. That night, he and Miller sifted through the onboard vision for hours to study every turn, every mistake and every technique – something he had never truly done.On the Sunday morning, while a number of other drivers struggled to handle the challenging conditions, Wiedman found himself with a 45-second lead courtesy of a hat-trick of stage wins.Unfortunately, he was met with his second major drama of the event when he lost his brakes. However, once again, he eased his way through the stages and made it back to Service.

Article Image

While the team temporarily fixed his issue and helped him win the afternoon’s first stage, his brakes failed again and he was forced to take it easy – his WOLF Production Cup lead whittling away and his chances of the outright podium quickly diminishing.Despite all the mechanical failures, Wiedman managed to hold on to the class Heat win by just one second over Jody Mill and James Ford to secure the class win and a top-five outright finish – capping off what had been a breakthrough weekend for the rising star.

“I know for a fact if it was a couple of years ago, I would have crashed out with those brake issues and my event would have been over,” Wiedman said.“We had big problems and we managed to overcome them and hold on for the win, which was awesome.“It feels really good. The event ended up being an eye-opening experience for me; it showed that we could make something happen this season and what we are truly capable of if we put our mind to it.“I think I have matured as a driver and taken a step up to be honest. There would be times in previous years where I would get out to a big lead and just push and push until I made a mistake and crash out. I’ve figured out that now if I get to a comfortable lead, I can just cruise my way through the stages rather than going hard for no reason.“It’s taken me a while, but I think I am on the right pathway. Having KJ was amazing and I feel he took me to the next level. Even the simple stuff of going through the videos instead of just winging it.“I am very happy with the result and I am hoping that I will be able to have something to show for this season – the victory in Canberra is definitely a good start.“We are very open to the idea of eventually doing outright, but I think we are going to spend the next two years in the Production Cup and see how we fare there. If we are showing a lot of positive progress, then the aim is to step up into the outright class for the 2027 season.”

Wiedman currently sits fourth on the overall standings and tops the WOLF Production Cup. He is likely to miss May’s Forest Rally but will return for Rally Queensland in July.

Scott Pedder moves to top of ARC seeding list following Canberra podium

The EROAD Australian Rally Championship seedings have received a major shakeup following last month’s thrilling Toyota Gazoo Racing Rally of Canberra, with Scott Pedder replacing Harry Bates at the top.The ARC seeding list ranks drivers and is updated after each round of the ARC based on past performances, taking into account factors like stage times and competition strength. A driver's best two rallies out of their last three is used to determine their seeding number ultimately determining the starting positions of a crew for upcoming events. It is important to note that this is not based on results but stage times and therefore speed.Bates had occupied top spot for many years as a result of his three titles in four full seasons, with Pedder’s runner-up finish giving him enough points to replace Harry by a Driver Performance Index score difference of 0.000049 points.Pedder will now head into May’s Forest Rally as the number one seed over Bates, while Rally of Canberra winner Lewis Bates will enter the round as the third on the road.

Article Image

Lewis’ victory in Canberra saw him move up the Seeding list to third - leapfrogging New Zealand superstar Hayden Paddon in the process.Interestingly, Lewis’ new position means he, Pedder and Harry will be the trio of drivers taking part in the newly introduced Ballot to determine the top three. The move may come as an advantage to Paddon though, with Western Australia’s unique ball- bearing roads often proving a major challenge to the front runners in the championship - giving the Kiwi a slight advantage over his fellow title rivals.View the Seeding List here. https://app.wolfacility.com/seedingThe Forest Rally takes place around the forests of Nannup in Western Australia on 23-25 May.
